Dear Princess

Princess is a very sweet Labrador Retriever who was found on July 20, 2005 in a ditch. She was just lying there, probably waiting to die: her pelvis was broken and she just was unable to walk. She was thin and dehydrated and also had a rather bad skin condition (maybe mange or just from being a stray for a while). She was also diagnosed with heartworms.

Just the day after she was picked up, she painfully dragged herself to the pond and started to swim: did she know it was probably the best therapy for her broken pelvis or was she trying to get some relief from her burning skin? Since then she has made some amazing progress.

Princess lives in a foster home until we find a permanent one for her. She gained weight and most importantly she now walks almost normally. She runs when necessary (i.e. if a stick is involved) and LOVES to swim. She is calm and sweet, and seems to have the survivor state of mind: she escaped a horrible, painful, slow death - alone in a ditch, hungry, thirsty, with a broken pelvis, just abandoned! - and she would be content with very little: food, water, shelter. She now has much more than that: she can walk, she has a pond to swim, other dogs around, and people who love her... so what else could she be asking for?

But Princess is still heartworm positive, an often lethal condition if left untreated. She needs to be treated before we can place her. Donations in any amount would be greatly appreciated!

On Princess' behalf, Thank You!
